Throughout the late 70s and 80s, Pablo Escobar, the leader of the Medellin Cartel, made billions of dollars trafficking cocaine throughout the Americas.
Meanwhile, in Colombia, a new form of destruction, narcoterrorism, arose.
Thousands died. A torrent of suffering was left behind.
However, Escobar, arguably the most famous and notorious cocaine dealer ever, did not use cocaine.
This was reported unequivocally by Pablo Junior, who uses the alias Sebastian Marroquin. Pablo Junior states he was also told explicitly by Escobar Senior to never, ever use cocaine.
Escobar explained to Junior the thinking error that drug users commit. Drug users believe that they are brave, because they use drugs.
Quite the opposite, though. Senior explained to his son that a person is brave if they do NOT use drugs.
Many recreational drugs are illegal. That’s enough reason to stay away. Do not tempt fate and start brushing up with the law.
However, for legal substances, it’s your choice. Do what you like. But know, that substance (ab)use doesn’t make you a better person or mean you have more guts than others. You’re just making a choice. You’re making a tradeoff. Instead of experiencing the benefits that long-term health, energy, and vitality could give you, you’re getting high in the now. And the higher you get, the harder you’re going to hit the ground one day.
It's your life. It's just a choice.
Understand the tradeoff you’re making, and what really takes character.
The person who does not use drugs or alcohol is the brave one.
